Brighton film shoot

Events No Comments »

So this Sunday we went down to Brighton for a film shoot and here's what happened!

Arrived in Brighton and the first set of lights - the clutch dissapeared, just like that - there one minute, pedal to the floor the next.  So we pulled into a side street and after some poking around Jayson called the AA (roadside assistance), they arrived about 40 mins later and confirmed we were stuffed, so worky for clutchy.  We explained the situaton (need the car for the film shoot) and figured out we can put it in first, start it and drive it, but cant change the gears, or put it in nutral to stop (so it stalls instead).  So the guy towed the car to the film location (Brighton Marina Asda multistory carpark), and organised that it would be picked up on Monday morning and driven up to Wakefield to be fixed (6 hours north) and we parked the car and just crossed our fingers they would just want it 'parked' somewhere and not driven around *eek*

So it was only 5ish so we decided to walk up to the Brighton Pier (stalls, rides, big long pier, lots of tourist attractions) took us almost an hour to walk there so basically had time to grab an icecream and the find a bus to take us back (which didn't drop us at the marina so we had to catch another one back the other way!)  We went and introduced ourselves and had some 'breakfast' (apparently what they call dinner when your on an all-night film shoot), cleaned up the cars, got changed and went down to the set.

So just to fill you in, they were making a love story based around 'boy races' (think Fast & Furious) the english version.  So they had a few of their own very nice fancy cars, but they had put an ad in the 'Max Power' magazine (fancy car magazine) for ppl to bring their cars & girls down to be in a film shoot, so there did end up being around 50-70 done-up cars there and lots of guys in hoodies!

Got a bit of flack for being a copper, though I was surprised that none of it was nasty, mainly got asked if I would do arrests and body search and if I know how to use my baton Tongue out hehe - mainly people were really shocked when they found out we wern't real cops!  So I dozed off to sleep in the car around 10ish and slept through till around 1.30 - Jayson woke me up around 2 and we got getting ready to do our bit - while I was sleeping some realy coppers turned up and were offered parts in the movie too - so there ended up being 3 cars and 5 cops - we looked spot on too - couldn't tell the difference between us and them - hehe.

Pointing out here though - that we didn't actually know what we were doing yet - the tiny bit of script that we got - said '3 cops running up the ramp' and that was it, we hadn't told anyone about the clutch problem so we were still crossing out fingers that they would just use the cars as props - we were going to be totally fucked if they wanted us to do a car chase scene!

So the next bit happened in about 15 minutes - all that waiting around and stress for FIFTEEN MINUTES!  They explained that they wanted the two cars to come from the top level (ours) and the real police car to come from the bottom level (picture a multi-story car park) we went from level 6 to 5 where they was dj decks set up and just one car left and two guys playing on the decks.  We totally bagged it, Jayson in the dodgy car in front, Dave and I in the vectra behind him, lights flashing, director yells 'police' Jayson rams the car in first, starts it and zooms down the ramp, turns it off before it stalls - jumps out and runs towards the back of the carpark (where there were some ppl running away) and joins up with the other two real cops back there, Dave and I pull up, jump out and push the two dj's away from the decks and pretend to start talking to them (this took about 2 minutes) we only did this twice and they were like 'thats great - thanks you can go now' - lol we were like 'what!' but were happy - think it will look pretty cool!

so we packed up and changed and called the AA again to come and get the car, it was agreed that Dave would drive me home in the good car and Jayson would go with the tow truck guy. We waiting till 4am, still no tow truck so Dave and I headed off, truck arrived around 5am, I got home around 6am, Dave headed off to meet Jayson and the truck on the road and I snuggled into bed for some kip.  Up at 7.30 and headed off to work!  What a trooper!

Jayson and the dodgy car arrive up north around 1.30pm, he then hopped back on a bus and got home around 11pm - long long day!
